Projects
In the heart of every community lies a story untold, a narrative of struggle, resilience, and hope. At Winnies Women World Initiative, we believe that every woman deserves the chance to reclaim her story, to rewrite the chapters of her life with courage, determination, and dignity.
“Shelter of Hope Project,” a beacon of light in the darkness for highly vulnerable homeless women in our community. This project is not just about providing temporary shelter; it is about offering a lifeline, a pathway to empowerment, and a chance for a brighter future.
This project identifies and reach out to highly vulnerable homeless women, offering them not only a safe place to rest their heads but also a comprehensive program of support designed to help them reclaim their independence and transform their lives.
W3 Initiative works in Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights to ensure the protection of the basic health and sexual rights of minority groups. We work particularly to support migrants that are into commercial sex to protect them against HIV/AIDS and other STIs. Commercial sex is illegal in Ghana and Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) face high discriminations which increase their vulnerability to HIV infection and transmission to their sex partners. W3’S specific role includes providing HIV prevention education to CSWs people and people at a high risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV.
As a women-led NGO, W3 Initiative works to ensure the protection of Women’s Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) as enshrined in the Ghanaian Constitution, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other instruments. We hold strong that the realization of Civil, Political, Digital, Environmental and Economic Rights strengthens democracy, while the realization of social and cultural rights would ensure that the Ghanaian society is fairer and more cohesive. It is through the work of HRDs, including human rights monitoring and advocacy efforts, that state authorities obtain a clearer and more realistic picture of how citizens are able to exercise the rights and fundamental freedoms enshrined in international treaties and Ghana’s Constitutions.
W3 works with women and girls in the rural parts of the Ashanti Region of Ghana to address water pollution. 60% of Ghana’s water bodies are polluted due to mining activities (Water Resources Commission). Ghana’s water bodies are polluted, with many in critical conditions due to illegal mining activities (galamsey) industrial waste as well as household disposals. These environmental degradation activities place women and girls at the extreme margin of poverty and increases their vulnerabilities to safe drinking water and hygiene services.
Data from the NPHC and other sources show that Ghana has between 1.55-2.2 Million persons with various forms of disabilities; with women and girls constituting around 64%. While women and girls are in huger percentage of these demographics, they are the most marginalized and vulnerable in accessing digital education and employment opportunities.
The increasing economic and social importance of digital technologies, justify that disparities and biases exacerbate existing inequalities experienced by WGWDs rather than reduce them. This digital gap is unlikely to close on its own. Its root causes are driven by a complex set of social, economic and cultural barriers which can only be overcome with targeted intervention by advocacy, policy reforms and education in ICT.
We enhance capacity building of women and youth in Ghana through Technical, vocational education and training such as Cosmetology, craft, catering, technology and entrepreneurship. Trainees also receive entrepreneurial and business modelling training to equip them to setup and manage their businesses.
The project also retains 40% of trainees in the SHE -VET hub where they will be employed to render their services to institutions and the general public. The project which targets all 16 regions in Ghana, classifies its target group into various groups based on their respective challenges and capacities.
This project aims at advocating for the rights of the alleged witches and refugees in Ghana by addressing SDG 2 Zero Hunger.
W3 initiative provides food, clothing and basic needs on regular basis to various alleged witches camp and refugees camps in Ghana. These inmates are unable to farm, attend public gatherings, go to school or hospital without being called names, which has affected them psychologically and mentally which has caused depression.
Through this project we are able to feed more than 200 inmates.
